MISSION

WE ARE THE COALITION OF INTERIOR DESIGNERS FOR INTERIOR DESIGNERS

Our unified mission is to protect every interior designer's right to practice in California and to advance and protect the interior design profession while maintaining the highest standards of competency, accountability and pubic safety. We ensure every California interior designer has equitable access to professional recognition and opportunity, regardless of education route, market segment or affiliation.

HISTORY

The CLCid was established in the 1980s as a coalition of various interior design organizations and individual interior designers to support the practice of professional interior designers and advocate for their recognition through certification. The coalition played an enormous role in supporting the legislation that led to the formation of the California Council for Interior Design Certification (CCIDC), which administers the Certified Interior Designer Title Act to protect the health, safety and welfare of consumers by establishing and implementing professional standards and educational requirements, ensuring competence through examination, and compliance with professional standards and our code of ethics.

Our collective hard work has resulted in the defeat of misguided legislation that would have devastated the interior design profession by limiting the scope of services that interior designers are legally able to provide.

Through our dynamic network within the design community and industry professionals, we foster collaboration, education, and leadership development — ensuring that our members have the tools and resources they need to succeed.
