IDEX® TEST PREP
IDEX® CALIFORNIA IS THE ONLY INTERIOR DESIGN EXAMINATION REQUIRED IN CALIFORNIA AND THE CLCid OFFERS IDEX® TEST PREP
The California Council for Interior Design Certification (CCIDC) administers the Certified Interior Designer Title Act to protect the health, safety and welfare of consumers by establishing and implementing professional standards and educational requirements, ensuring competence through examination (IDEX® California Examination), and compliance with professional standards and our code of ethics.
- The IDEX® California Examination complies with the guidelines and standards published in The Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing as well as the California Department of Consumer Affairs, Exam Validation Policy.
- All certification candidates must pass the IDEX® California Exam.
- Designers are examined for competence in Commercial as well as Residential Interior Design, including:
- California Codes and Regulations
- Design synthesis
- Schematics
- Programming
- Space planning
- Design development
- Working drawings
- Construction documents
- Furniture and finish specifications
- Lighting layout and specifications
- Contract documents
- Contract administration
- Business law
- Ethics

CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS (CEU)
CLCid places a strong emphasis on professional development of our interior design members through its Continuing Education Units (CEUs) program.
We recognize that not every member is Certified Interior Designer (CID), however, every CID is required to complete 1.0 CEUs (equivalent to 10 hours) every two years, including 5 hours focusing on CA Building Code-related courses for Commercial Designation holders.
We strongly encourage all our members (CIDs or otherwise) to take CEUs throughout their academic and/or professional careers to enhance their knowledge and protect the health, safety and welfare of the public.
